Women's Health & Human Rights - 2015-12-19
On December 19, 2015 Sahayatri staff and volunteers met with a women’s group. A total of 38 participants from a collaborative 140 women strong contributed their vitality and experiences related to the program material which covered sexual and reproductive health, and violence prevention. After a series of lively and serious discussions, the women left with a stronger knowledge base on uterine prolapse, HIV/AIDS, and domestic violence. After receiving positive feedback from the group, Sahayatri Nepal was proud to make a 1,000 NPR donation to these women’s efforts. School Program Women’s Group Nuwakot After signing in and introducing themselves to their neighbors, the women listened attentively. Pre - test and post - test evaluation measures indicated that the women left with significantly more knowledge regarding the the female reproductive system anatomy, uterine prolapse signs and symptoms, management and treatment options, accessible physical and mental health resources, and domestic violence and marital rape. Through solidarity and support, these women fearlessly advocate for ending cycles of violence and advancing towards health equity for their c hildren a nd the future.
HIV/AIDS Education School Program -2015-12-18
On December 18, 2015 Sahayatri Nepal Health Educators and Social Workers implemented a program at a publically run government school. The students were all very engaged in the activities that covered topics such as HIV/AIDS awareness, individual empowerment focusing on My Body, My Right, and stress management. During the two hour program facilitated in both Nepali and English, the students had the opportunity to share and build upon their knowledge, work in groups and present their collective efforts, and gain confidence in their ability to support others in vulnerable situations.
Women's Health & Human Rights -2015-12-13
On December 13, 2015 Pragya Shrestha and Erika Bro took Sahayatri Nepal’s Women’s Health and Human Rights program to a rural community in Dhading . By the time the program was over, 32 women had participated, taking time away from working in the fields to engage in discussions to empower themselves and others. The women brought chairs and straw mats from their homes so that everyone could engage comfortably while learning more about heavy topics that can oftentimes be challenging or triggering to address in any setting. World AIDS Day 2015 - 2015-12-01
On December 1, World AIDS Day 2015, Sahayatri staff and volunteers went to deliver a food program at Punarbal, a community agency dedicated to serving HIV positive children. Punarbal is located in Sita Paila , Kathmandu with 30 resident children. Upon the children’s requests, Sahayatri Nepal responded accordingly by providing support in the forms of food and school supplies. Their response was joyful and enthusiastic! To ensure confidentiality of the children living with HIV, no photos were taken at this program. However, the Punarbal family provided a lovely Thank Y ou card for our visit.
Women's Health and Human Rights Program – 2015-07-03
The Women's Health and Human Rights program covers the importance of positive outlook on the self, knowing and advocating for one's own birth rights, prevention of marital rape, and primary and secondary prevention of obstetric fistula and uterine prolapse. Thirty-eight women attended the workshop in Dhading, a district struggling with the problem of sex trafficking of women and girls. These women gave up hours of work to attend the program and take part in the prevention of women's rights violations. National and International volunteers taught about preventable health problems like obstetric fistula and uterine prolapse that are tied to gender inequality, and women's rights to health and education.
Health and Hygiene Program in Schools – 2014-04-30
Sahayatri Nepal conducted a Health and Hygiene Program for Class 2 and 3 students in a government school in Laljhadi Village. One international and one Nepali volunteer, both studying public health, taught hygiene topics such as washing hands, brushing teeth, eating a healthy breakfast, and caring for skin, hair and nails.
Health and Hygiene Program for Women’s Group – 2014-04-01
Sahayatri Nepal conducted a Health and Hygiene Program for a community women's group in Harnamadi VDC. It taught hygiene topics such as washing hands, brushing teeth, checking for lice, genital area hygiene, and caring for skin, hair and nails. An international volunteer demonstrated good technique for brushing teeth and washing hands. After the lesson, the women received goodie-bags with toothpaste, toothbrush, bar of soap, nail clippers, shampoo, hair oil, and comb.
HIV/AIDS Education Program – 2014-04-01
Sahayatri Nepal conducts HIV/AIDS Education Programs at government schools in the Makawanpur district. The aim of this program is to teach students the facts about HIV and AIDS, so they can protect themselves and others against HIV.
Hair Cutting Day – 2014-04-01
This program is for the sponsored children who attend our day care center. Every month they have cleaning day and personal health and hygiene day, and hair cutting day was a very successful addition.
